A 28-year-old was arrested on Saturday for molesting a minor girl for three days after locking her in a room on his farm at Melvelam village near Ranipet.

Vinitha (17) (named changed) filed a complaint at the All Women Police Station, Ranipet of Melvelam village against Dheenadhayalan, an electrician, of the same area.

Dheenadhayalan, brother of her friend Sailaja, intercepted her and forcibly took her to his farm and locked her in the pump room, police said. After gagging her, he molested her. He forced himself upon her the next day too. The girl was rescued by two villagers who passed by around 5 pm on May 2, when Dheenadhayalan had gone out to buy food.

In her complaint, the girl also stated that Dheenadhayalan had earlier told her that he was in love and wanted to marry her. Police registered a case against Dheenadhayalan under Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 read with sections 343 (wrongful confinement), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) and 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC.

SI Anbukarasi arrested Dheenadhayalan on Saturday evening. He was remanded to Vellore Central Prison for Men.
