Lawyer Killed, Police Question Associates

An advocate was hacked to death by an unidentified gang in the late hours of Monday. Police have been interrogating three persons who were the associates of the deceased advocates, in connection with the murder, here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, where the body of the deceased was being kept for autopsy as hundreds of advocates from  Tiruchy Bar Association, members of various consumer organisations and relatives gathered in front of the mortuary at the campus.

According to police S Mathiyazhagan (45) of Weavers colony in Woraiyur, an advocate was on his usual walk on Monday around 10 pm with his pet dog, he reportedly entered into a narrow lane from Woraiyur Salai Road. After he crossed ten to fifteen feet, an unidentified gang which was already in hiding there attacked him with deadly weapons.

Mathiyazhagan sustained grievous head injuries, and died on the spot in a pool of blood. Subsequently the miscreants fled from the scene. His pet dog ran around his master’s body and barked. On hearing this, neighbours rushed to the spot.

Soon, they informed the Woraiyur police. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, City Police Commissioner and Abhinav Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police with a team of police personnel from Woraiyur rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry.

Experts from the forensic department and sniffer dogs were pressed into action. The body was then sent to the GH for autopsy.
