Three houses were damaged and trees were uprooted in Tirunelveli city resulting in injuries to seven people as rains continued to batter the district on Wednesday.

Tirunelveli and Palayamkotti witnessed 52 mm and 80 mm rainfall respectively during the last 24 hours resulting in water logging on the roads. There was heavy water stagnation at VOC grounds at Palayamkottai.

A house at Pettai was partially damaged on Tuesday night. The occupants  of the house, Saraswathi (32), her father Muthiah (75) and their relative Nandakumar (7) were injured.

The neighbours came to their rescue and they were rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH).

Many trees were damaged and a neem tree was routed out in the rain at Thatchanallur area.

The slab of a house fell down at Tamil Sangam Street at Tirunelveli town, injuring two boys — Epul (6), Esmath (8) and their mother Thama (32). They were admitted to TVMCH, police sources added.

A house was damaged in the rain near Kalakadu on Wednesday, injuring a 37-year-old car driver.

Due to the heavy downpour, the house of the car driver Isravel (37) of Kelakaruvelankulam was damaged. He was injured in the incident.
