The district police detained two habitual offenders, including a notorious rowdy, under the Goondas Act on Tuesday.

Rajan (28) of Avai Nagar in Tirupattur town was detained under the Goondas Act for hacking a 24-year-old Dalit youth, Arun Kumar of Jai Beam Nagar, to death and remanded to the prison. He was out on bail and continued his illegal activities. He was again arrested in connection with a robbery case and remanded in the Vellore prison.

Rajan was the prime accused in a triple murder case in 2008. He had also attacked two policemen in 2009. There were a few pending cases against him under Section 307 of IPC.

Following a recommendation from the SP, P Vijayakumar, Collector Rajendra Ratnoo issued orders to detain Rajan under the Goondas Act. The police served him the detention order on Monday. The Collector also issued an order to detain Rajiv Gandhi (30) of Thiruvapalayam, under the Bootleggers Act. Gandhi was arrested for selling illicit liquor and remanded to Vellore prison.
