Two elderly men have been accused of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl from T Dhevanur village near Tirukovilur on Sunday, police said.

The victim Priyanka (name changed) had, on  April 25, gone to a shop to buy vegetables when Arumugha Goundar (65) gave her `1, took her to his farmland and sexually harassed her.

On the next day, Rangaraj Naidu (75) also gave her `1, took her to his house, when no one else was there, and sexually abused her. However, the girl did not inform anyone about the incident.

On Saturday, Rangaraj Naidu again tried to persuade the girl to go with him, but, the girl resisted and informed her grandmother. She in turn informed the girl’s parents, who were construction workers, in Chennai.

Her parents returned to the village and lodged a complaint at the Tirukovilur All Women Police Station. Police  registered a case and arrested Rangaraj Naidu on Sunday morning. Police are searching for the other accused Arumugha Goundar, who is reportedly absconding.
