Arakkonam Arrest Busts Fraud Racket

The Vellore district police, who had arrested a man called Magibullah (37) possessing chemical substances outside the Arakkonam railway station, on Sunday revealed that he didn’t have any terror links.

Magibullah, a native of Assam, was arrested on Saturday evening. He possessed different types of chemicals that were initially mistaken for red phosphorus, used in making explosives.

Vellore SP P Vijayakumar interrogated him at the Thakkolam Police Station. The inquiry found that he didn’t have links with any terrorist groups and that he was part of a gang that cheated gullible people.

Magibullah along with his associates Raju (alias) Siddiq (43) of Parthiputhur and Ismail (38) of SP Gate in Arakkonam Town had defrauded people of lakhs of rupees. “We learnt they cheated four to five people of amounts ranging from `30,000 to `1.5 lakh each,” said a police officer and added that they tricked their victims claiming that a person possessing a metal (‘rice puller’), which allegedly has the power to ‘pull’ rice, would prosper. The police also arrested Raju and Ismail, registered a case of cheating and remanded the trio.
