Senior Citizen Killed in Road Mishap

An 87-year-old man was killed in a road accident on Sunday afternoon. The victim was identified as Annamalai, a resident of Arumbarthapuram. Police said he was on Puducherry-Villianur main road, when he was knocked down by a crane and was run over.

Police said, the driver of the crane vehicle, Duraisamy (29), hailing from Shamughapuram, drove in a rash and negligent manner and dashed Annamalai. Annamalai fell down and the left front wheel of the crane ran over Annamalai’s left hand and leg.

He also suffered severe injuries to other parts of the body. The victim was rushed to the GH, where the doctor, after examining, declared him brought dead.

The traffic (South) police have registered cases under Section 279 and 304 (a) of IPC and are investigating.

Hit and Run Case

In a hit and run incident, Kuppusamy (55), a Villupuram resident was knocked down while crossing the road and was run over by a car on the Puducherry-Villupuram main road on Sunday night. Kuppusamy was working as a watchman at a private company godown.

Traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.

Motorist Killed

In Karaikal, a two-wheeler rider was killed after the vehicle he was driving rammed a telephone post. According to police, the incident happened near Annavasal main road, Nedungadu,on Sunday. The victim, Gopu (28) was driving the bike with a pillion rider, Veeraian (31).

The bike rammed the telephone post and caused injuries to the pillion rider and Gopu, who died while undergoing treatment at Government Hospital, Karaikal. A case has been registered.
