TN: Left Leaders Demand Action Against Attackers of Pakistan Student

Leaders of Left parties demanded stern action by President Pranab Mukherjee against those who attacked a Pakistani student in Pondicherry Central University on May 13 and said the incident had shattered the image of the union territory as "peaceful Puducherry".

Leaders of Left parties Thursday demanded stern action by President Pranab Mukherjee against those who attacked a Pakistani student in Pondicherry Central University on May 13 and said the incident had shattered the image of the union territory as "peaceful Puducherry".

In a joint petition,CPI state unit secretary R Viswanathan, CPI(M) Puducherry State Council Secretary, V Perumal, AIFB General Secretary U Muthu and RSP State secretary K Lenin said the attack "has bilateral, regional and international repercussions" and urged the President to ensure safe and peaceful atmosphere for students in the university.

Ali Hassan Raza was attacked by some unidentified persons in his hostel room on May 13.

He was a recipient of the prestigious fellowship instituted by the Madanjeet Singh group through the South Asia Foundation and was doing a Post Graduate course in the University.
