CHENNAI:  Tamil Nadu-based Hindu Munnani has received a letter "threatening" its leader Rama Gopalan and demanding release of suspected ISI agent Mohammed Zahir Hussain, arrested recently here, police said today.

Police said they were investigating the matter following a complaint by the Hindu Munnai, but declined to reveal the nature of the threat made in the letter.

The letter allegedly written in the name of "Basha" from Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar District demanded the release of Hussain, now under judicial custody.

Gopalan had survived several attempts on his life by extremists in the past.
