MDMK Leader Malarmannan Passes Away

Veteran leader of the Dravidian movement and one of the architects of MDMK, A Malarmannan (77) passed away after a brief illness at Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday.

TIRUCHY: Veteran leader of the Dravidian movement and one of the architects of MDMK, A Malarmannan (77) passed away after a brief illness at Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday.

Malarmannan, the MDMK’s Tiruchy Urban district secretary is a close aide of Vaiko. His body was brought to his residence at Annamalai Nagar here. He was the lone winner for the DMK in the district in the 1984 Assembly elections, following the death of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

When Vaiko quit the DMK and formed the MDMK,  Malarmannan was one among senior leaders  who stood behind Vaiko. Ever since, he has been loyal to Vaiko. He was suffering from kidney trouble for the last few months.

Last week, he had a strong infection and was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai, where he died. Malarmannanis survived by his wife Rani, two sons and two daughters.
