Coast Guard Catches 14 SL Fishermen

Fourteen Sri Lankan fishermen who were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard on Tuesday were brought to the Old Harbour on Wednesday and handed over to the Marine Police in Taruvaikulam.

THOOTHUKUDI: Fourteen Sri Lankan fishermen who were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard on Tuesday were brought to the Old Harbour on Wednesday and handed over to the Marine Police in Taruvaikulam.

Police sources informed that all the fishermen were from Neercolombo. With the 45-day ban on fishing in effect in Tamil Nadu, Coast Guard officials who were on patrol in ICGS Vaibhav, grew suspicious  when they saw fishermen in Indian waters.

Sources revealed that after an FIR is filed by the Marine Police they will be handed  over to District Police and then remanded.
