COIMBATORE:  A 32-year-old man was arrested in Pollachi after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl at a dilapidated building near Zamin Uthukali, Pollachi last week.

According to Pollachi All Women’s Police, the 13-year-old class VIII schoolgirl was well known to the accused, identified as Madhan, 32, as she used to visit his home often and play with Madhan’s five-year-old child.

It has been alleged that the girl had been waiting near Madhan’s house on May 15, while her mother had gone to the grocery store. Taking advantage of the situation, Madhan is believed to have told the girl to come into his house and wait.

The girl then accompanied Madhan, who instead of taking her to his home, took her against her will to a hut in the area, where he allegedly raped her.

Madhan then threatened the girl that he would kill her if she revealed the incident to her parents. The girl’s mother, noting her changed behaviour over the next few days, inquired what had happened. The girl then told her mother that Madhan had raped her. She filed a case with the Pollachi AWPS police.

Madhan has since been arrested and remanded. He has been charged with rape.
