CHENNAI: A 40-year-old construction worker was killed after a portion of the ceiling of an old house that he was demolishing fell on him at Thirumangalam, on Friday evening.
Police said Shakthivel of Tiruvannamalai and seven others were hired by Rajendran, to demolish a house.
Shakthivel was demolishing the house from inside. He tried to demolish a pillar but in the process, he disturbed the ceiling and a portion of it fell on him and he got buried in the debris.
As he raised an alarm, other employees came to his rescue but they could not pull him out. Fire and rescue services rushed to the spot and pulled Shakthivel out. He was moved to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
