PUDUCHERRY: The National Fish workers Federation (NFF) has urged Narendra Modi, who is set to assume charge as Prime Minister, to take up with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa the issues of the fishermen and secure their release.

In a statement, chairperson of NFF, M Ilango, while welcoming their visit, said that it augurs well for the fishing community. The NFF is hopeful of a solution to fishermen issues through their visit. He urged Sharif to release over 200 fishermen who are still languishing in prisons in Pakistan as well as around 800 fibre boats belonging to them. Similarly, he urged Rajapaksa to release the 14 fishermen booked under criminal charges.
