Robbers Decamp With 35 Sovereigns Jewels from Shop Owner’s House

VELLORE: Robbers sneaked into the house of a poultry shop owner in Virinjipuram and decamped with 35 sovereigns of gold ornaments and a cell phone. The worth of the stolen articles was estimated to be `8 lakh.

Police said, on Wednesday night Anju (35) and his family members were sleeping in the verandah when the burglars entered the house after unlocking the back door and looted the jewels kept in an almirah in the bedroom and took away a high-end cell phone.

Anju and his family members were shocked to see the valuables missing on Thursday morning. Virinjipuram police registered a case. 

Student Dies 

A 21-year-old engineering student was killed and three others were injured when the car in which they were travelling hit an electricity post near Thaangal. Police said, the deceased was V Suryanarayanan, a resident of Usman Ali Nagar in Tiruchy. He was studying in a private engineering institution at Katpadi. The accident occurred when his friends were travelling to Tiruvalam.

When they were near Thaangal, his friend Roni, who was driving the car, lost control after its front left tyre burst and the car rammed an electricity post. Suryanarayanan, who was in the front seat, died on the spot while the three others sustained injuries.
