PUDUCHERRY: Three students of VOC Government Higher Secondary School drowned in the sea off  Thanthirankuppam near Kottakuppam on Tuesday, when they went for a swim.

According to police, the deceased were  Kamalahasan (18) and his younger brother Dinesh Kumar (16), sons of Suresh from Lawspet, and another student Stephen Raj (18), son of Irudiyaraj from Nellithope.

The incident happened when the three along with their three of their friends had gone to the beach bordering Puducherry and were playing with a ball in the waters. When the ball moved out into the sea, Kamalahasan, Dinesh and Stephen  went to fetch it. High tides dragged all of them into the waters. They raised an alarm and fishermen nearby tried to save them. But, by the time they could reach them, they found two dead. The search is on for Stephen’s body.
