3-year-old Girl Dies as TV Falls on Her

CHENNAI: In a freak accident, a three-year-old girl child died after a television set fell on her head while she playing with the power chord, on Monday.

Police said Ratchana (3), the only daughter of Santhosh Kumar and Sasikala, residents of K K Nagar, had gone with her parents to a relative’s house in Alappakkam near Maduravoyal.

Ratchana was playing near the TV stand and pulled the power chord, causing the 32-inch TV to fall on her. The girl was taken to a hospital where she  died.

4-yr-old Abused

A 4-year-old girl was sexually abused by her 25-year-old neighbour in a village near Ponneri on Saturday. The child was playing in front of her house when Naresh lured her into his house by offering sweets.

“The girl was missing for nearly four hours. After some time, the girl returned home and looked depressed. When her mother enquired, she showed her the wounds and told her what had happened,” said a police officer. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to the Government Children Hospital in Egmore for further treatment. On Sunday, the parents lodged a complaint at the All Women Police Station in Ponneri following which Naresh was arrested.

Man Hacked To Death

A 42-year-old man, returning home after work, was hacked to death on Sunday night on GST road. Police said Muthu Krishnan was found dead with cut injuries near a bridge around midnight.

Police said they suspect the the victim’s brother in-law, also named Muthu Krishnan. “During enquiries we found that there was previous enmity between the two. The suspect was under the belief that the victim had an illicit affair with his wife and that could be the reason behind the murder,” said a police officer. Police handed over Muthu Krishnan’s body to his relatives after autopsy and are on the lookout for the suspects.

Man Kills Father

A 63-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his 31-year-old son on Monday in a quarrel over land. Police said K Kadhar Basha was in his house at Pudhu Vattaram area in Kundrathur, when his son Sheikh Hussain, an auto-driver, came to the house and picked a quarrel with him.

Basha was living with his third wife after his earlier spouses died. Hussain was born to Basha’s first wife. “The relationship between the son and father was strained as Basha was planning to transfer land owned by him to his third wife. Hussain objected to this and wanted a share for himself. During the heated quarrel, he picked up a knife and stabbed Basha killing him on the spot,” said a police officer. Police are on the lookout for Hussain.
