Thief Returns Booty, Surprises Mason

COIMBATORE:  In an unexpected turn of events, a thief, who broke into a mason’s house and robbed `1.93 lakh in cash and four sovereigns gold at Selvapuram here on Tuesday, secretly and safely returned the cash and valuables on Wednesday.

Sources said that Kuppusamy, a mason and a resident of Selvapuram, left for work on Tuesday morning. After sometime, Kuppusamy’s wife Lakshmi locked the house and went out to buy grocery from a nearby shop.

Though the woman returned a while later, she did not find anything amiss. However, the theft came to light only in the evening when she opened the almirah and found the cash and jewels missing. She immediately raised an alarm. Kuppusamy’s son Sasikumar, residing nearby, lodged a complaint with the Selvapuram police, who registered a case. However, the family was in for a surprise on Wednesday morning when they found a plastic bag with all stolen goods near their house. Later, Sasikumar visited the Selvapuram police station and withdrew his complaint.
