RAMANATHAPURAM: Ramanathapuram All Women Police detained a 24-year-old youth on Monday for allegedly raping a minor Dalit girl.
The police source said, Murugesan of Jaminthar Valasai village near Devipattinam, fell in love with the Dalit girl who was studying in plus-two at a school. He assured the girl that he would marry her and she believed his words.
Meanwhile, he took her to a coconut grove at Jamintharvalasai village where he allegedly raped her and left her near her house located at Muthusamypuram after refusing to marry her.
Irked over that, she informed about the incident to her mother and lodged a complaint with Devipattinam police who referred the case to the All Women Police Station. The women cops conducted an inquiry with her and detained Murugesan later. He may be incarcerated in prison after being produced before the court on Monday evening.
