2 Elderly Women Found Strangled

COIMBATORE: Two elderly women were found dead under suspicious circumstances at a house in Sowripalayam here on Tuesday morning.

The victims, V Lakshmi, 75, and her relative, V Ayyamal, 65, were living in a house at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sowripalayam. Both were widows.

Residents of the area suspected something amiss when the two women did not come out of their house on Tuesday morning. When the ir calls went unattended, they broke open the front door of the house. Entering, they found the body of Ayyamal near the door. No visible external injuries were found on her body.

Worried, they began looking for Lakshmi and stumbled upon the bathroom door. They broke open the door and found the body of Lakshmi, which was blocking the door from inside.

After Peelamedu police were alerted, two deputy commissioners, five assistant commissioners as well as the station police rushed to the spot and began investigations. They suspect that the two women might have been strangulated.

According to sources, Ayyamal, who works as a maid at an apartment block in the area, had received Rs 5,000 in cash as Deepavali bonus. The money as well as four sovereigns in gold jewellery were reported to be missing from the home.

Forensics teams as well as a sniffer dog were pressed into service in order to collect vital clues from the crime scene.
