CHENNAI: The 43rd foundation day of the ruling AIADMK on Friday remained a low-key affair as the party cadre were in a gloomy mood over the incarceration of their leader J Jayalalithaa.

AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudanan hoisted the party flag and garlanded the statue of party founder MG Ramachandran.  He also released a souvenir to mark the occasion and Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar received the first copy.

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his Cabinet colleagues, leaders of various wings of the party were present on the occasion.  As Madhusudanan garlanded the statue of MGR, the cadre raised slogans  like Makkal Mudhalvar Amma Vaazhga! and Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Vaazhga ! The AIADMK functionaries hoisted the party flag in other States where it has its units.

Normally, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa visits the headquarters on the foundation day and functionaries and cadre throng the office and give a rousing reception to her.  She would also distribute financial assistance to the indigent party workers and their families and distribute sweets to the cadre.
