Trainee Teacher arrested for Sexually Abusing Girl

VELLORE: A 21-year-old student of a private teacher training institute was arrested on Wednesday, for sexually abusing a student of class IV of the Government Elementary School in school premises on Friday. The accused, Immanuel Kanmani had attended the training session at the Government Elementary School at Konavattam.

When he came to collect his attendance certificate on Friday, he allegedly sexually abused a student. On learning of the incident from the student, parents and neighbours gathered in the school premises on Tuesday and demanded action against Kanmani.

He was arrested on Wednesday by the All Women Police Station in Vellore and remanded in jail. It might be recalled that the  Education Department had suspended the Headmistress (HM) and a teacher of the Government Elementary School on dereliction of duty on Tuesday.

Four Youth Held

Four teenage boys, including ding an 18 year-old college student, were arrested on charges of assaulting and relieving a 21- year-old youth of his mobile phone and cash of `1,000 in Tiruvannamalai.

A first-year private college student, a  resident of Samuthiram Colony (whose name has been withheld),  and three of his friends, all of whom were in an inebriated condition, stopped Chinnadurai, of Kelaanaikarai, on Tuesday night and assaulted him taking his mobile phone and cash worth `1,000, according to police department officals.

Following a complaint, the Tiruvannamalai Taluk police filed a case against the four teenagers and arrested them.

The four teenagers were sent to the Borstol School in Vellore.
