45 University to Attend VIT’s Global Meet on Manufacturing

VELLORE : VIT University, in association with Queensland University of Technology in Australia, will play host to the 12th Global Congress on Manufacturing and Management (GCMM) from December 8, 2014 to December 10, 2014.

 Chancellor G Viswanathan, the current chairman of GCMM, while briefing the media on the 3 day event, said the theme for this year’s conference is: ‘Dissemination of Knowledge towards Excellence in Manufacturing and Management Globally’.

‘This year representatives of leading industries, government organizations and various research organizations in India and seven other countries will be participating in this event,’ he said. As many as 275 participants are expected to take part in the international meet. Vishwanathan added that 35 Indian universities and 10 foreign universities will be presenting papers.  The paper to be adjudged the most noteworthy among those presented in the conference will be published in the Presidia Engineering Journal.

 ‘The focus of the meet will be to focus on quality and productivity while bridging the gap between universities and industries in the manufacturing sector by motivating youngsters to take up manufacturing in a big way,’ said the chancellor.

Stating that India has not fully utilised its manufacturing potential and while the present government is keen on promoting manufacturing, this conference will help galvanise the manufacturing sector.

GCMM is a non-profit organization, headquartered in India, governed by a board comprising of members from academia and industry from 23 different countries. It serves as a forum for leading researchers and industry partners to share their knowledge on global changes in manufacturing and management.

The non-profit organisation conducts conferences once every 2 years. The previous global conference in 2012 was held in New Zealand.

This will be the second time VIT University will play host to the international conference, having hosted it once before in 2004.
