COIMBATORE: Taking an apparent cue from PM Narendra Modi’s fondness for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the UGC has asked all higher education institutions to celebrate the birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India’ by administering the National Unity Day pledge to students and staff members.

Besides, UGC has asked colleges and universities across India to organise a ‘Run for the Unity’ on the occasion. In a letter to all V-Cs, UGC Chairman Ved Prakash has pointed out that the Centre has decided to observe Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31 as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day). He said that as a mark of honour for Patel’s contribution to national unity, universities must organise different events on October 31 on their campuses including in affiliated colleges.
