Duo Wanted in Rock City, Held in Chennai

TIRUCHY/CHENNAI: Police held two fugitives from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, who cheated a woman of Rs 35 lakh with the promise of making her a business partner.

The duo was nabbed when they attempted to escape to Delhi by a flight from Chennai on Wednesday. As they ambled to the airport, they were in for a surprise as a large team of policemen were waiting for them - at the entrance, almost like a morbid welcome party. A special team from Tiruchy had lured the two men - Mohammed Farwez Khan and Sumit Kumar - into coming to the airport by forcing their accomplice (and Sumit’s brother) Ajaykumar to call them and telling them that he had booked air tickets to Delhi, from Chennai.

According to police in Tiruchy, S Laxmi Priya (35) wife of Senthil Kumar, retired IAF officer of Thiru Nagar, lodged a complaint with Thiruverumbur police on September 23, 2014 stating that she was cheated by three youth who had collected `31 lakh from her promising to make her a partner at PF INFOTECH, a firm that deals in online business. However, even after several weeks, the youths failed to keep up to their promise and even vacated their room in which they were staying for several weeks in the City.

On the basis of her complaint, special teams were formed to nab the culprits. Meanwhile, acting on tip-off, the special team raided a star hotel in the city and secured Ajaykumar of Delhi, one of the culprits.

During the interrogation with Ajaykumar, police learnt that the other two were N Mohammed Farwez Khan of Uttar Pradesh and D Sumit Kumar of Delhi. The police also learnt that the duo was trying to fly to Delhi via Chennai Airport. The special team from the Tiruchy Police reached Chennai on Tuesday night and planned the arrest along with the local police. “Our men were waiting in plainclothes near the entrance of the domestic airport from 4.30 am itself as the flight is scheduled 6.30 am everyday,” a police official from Chennai airport said.

As the accused reached the airport’s entrance, the team quickly rounded them up without much ado. After the arrest, the two men were taken by road to Tiruchy by the special police team.
