DMK Convenor Wants Ministers to Hoist Flag in Mahe, Yanam on Nov 1

PUDUCHERRY: DMK convenor Dr M A S Subramanian has urged the Lieutenant Governor Ajay Kumar Singh to send Ministers to Mahe and Yanam or permit the Regional Administrative Officer of the regions to hoist the national flag on the occasion of Liberation Day on November 1.

In a letter to the L-G, a copy of which was released to the press, Subramanian  said it was the practice that the Governors hoist the  flag after the country obtained freedom. Only after the consistent struggle by the DMK leader M Karunanidhi, the Chief Ministers were given the power to hoist the tri-colour.

He said Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy would hoist the flag in Puducherry region and a Minister in the Karaikal region. But it was reported that the Legislators from the Mahe and Yanam regions would hoist the tri-colour there. Since the Legislators from Mahe and Yanam belong to the opposition party, they should not be permitted to hoist the flag, Dr Subramanian said and added that Ministers should be sent to those outlying regions to hoist the flag.

The police  have made arrangements for the function, which would be held on the Beach Road.

Visitors have been asked not to bring any handbag, food packet, camera etc and co-operate with security officials during the checking and frisking, a police press statement said.

Vehicles would not be allowed to ply on the Beach Road from 6 am to 1.30 pm.

Vehicles  from southern and northern sides of the beach should be parked at Sufreen Street, Romanroland and St Louie Street.
