NCST Chief in Pondy, to Visit ST Populated areas

PUDUCHERRY: Dr Rameshwar Oraon, chairperson, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, reached Puducherry on Sunday night. He is on  a three-day visit to the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

He was accompanied by the secretary of the NCST R VijayaKumar and other officials of the Commission.

The Commission members would hold discussions with the anthropologists, sociologists, representatives of the Scheduled Tribe community and top officials of the administration.

Officials sources said the purpose of the three-day visit was to identify the communities of Scheduled Tribes in the two regions of the Union Territory.

On Monday, they would visit the places of T N Palayam, Vathanur, Lawspet where people from the communities of Irular, Kattanayakar, Malakuravar and Kuravar are staying.

The members would then visit Karaikal on Tuesday.
