DHARMAPURI: Police have registered a case against a woman doctor here on Tuesday on charges of illegal sex determination and sex selective abortions.
Police said, acting on a tip-off received by the Superintendent of Police Asra Garg, a team conducted a surprise check at the Vijaya Fertility Centre located on Pennagaram Road and found that the doctor Kavitha was involved in pre-natal sex determination. Sources said that police were receiving frequent alerts that the woman doctor was conducting the pre-natal sex determination and sex selective abortions. Based on the tip-off, the fertility centre was brought under surveillance and it was found that the information was true.
“The fertility centre will be sealed soon and the issue will be taken up with the Indian Medical Association to expel the doctor from association,” police sources said. Dharmapuri town police, who have registered a case, are conducting further inquiries with the doctor.
