CBI Probe into Pawn Broker Murder Sought

PUDUCHERRY: Leader of Opposition V Vaithilingam has demanded a CBI inquiry to probe the murder of  Radheshyam  Dhoot, a pawn broker in April this year .

Despite the passage of several months and recovery of the car used in the crime , police have not even named the accused in the crime or arrested anyone in this  connection, he said at a press conference today.  Though Chief minister N.Rangasamy had assured the family and the members of the ‘Marwari’ community to which the  deceased belonged of proper action, there is no action in sight. The jewellery which were mortgaged to the deceased pawn broken by poor people has not been recovered and  neither the cash. He alleged that there was political interference in the investigations as those involved in the crime were associated with the ruling party. Even the  traders associations and the Chamber of Commerce have gone silent on the issue and were siding with the ruling party for self gain. Under this situation  the inquiry  should be conducted by CBI. The family was living in fear and proper security should be provided , he said

Alleging widespread irregularities done in a scientific way  in the procurement of free rice through the Fair price shops  (FPS)  here,  Vaithilingam today said that a  joint probe by authorities in Tamilnadu and Puducherry should be conducted,  since two  states were involved in procurement and distribution.

Elaborating, he said rice was being procured by Puducherry government from State Trading Corporation in Chennai . Alleging  malpractice , he said  that the rice  was procured in violation of tender rules of the government . There was no security guarantee , no check on quantity or quality as a result there was variation in the  supplied rice from one FPS to another and neither certification.  At  Thanjavur  only sample testing for technical aspects of production of  single boiled rice was  being done, he said.

‘Give Ministerial Berth to BJP’

Puducherry: The BJP-nominated MLA M Visweswaran should be given a Ministerial berth by the AINRC government so that he becomes a bridge between  Puducherry and the Centre for the benefit of Puducherry citizens, said Leader of Opposition V Vaithilingam. He said N Rangasamy should not cheat its Lok Sabha election ally BJP by depriving it of the Ministerial berth. By convention, so far, no nominated MLA has been made a Minister. If the BJP is given a Ministerial berth, he can serve Puducherry better with help from the centre.
