Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's Whirlwind Tour for Civic Poll

CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa will be undertaking a whirlwind campaign on September 12, 14 and 15 in the bypoll-bound three Corporations - Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore

The elections are scheduled for September 18 and the detailed tour of the Chief Minister is expected soon.

She has already announced party candidates for all the vacancies for which by-elections are being held: Mayorship of three Corporations, chairpersons of eight municipalities and seven town panchayats, 12 Corporation ward councillors, 53 town panchayat ward members, 101 town panchayat ward members, 11 district panchayat ward members and 82 panchayat union ward members.

All these candidates have filed their nominations on September 3 and commenced their campaign.

Meanwhile, the BJP has released its second list of candidates, including nominees for three Corporations, and all of them have filed the papers on Thursday, the last date for filing nominations.

The CPM has already announced its nominee for the Coimbatore Corporation mayorship.

The BJP candidates in the race for mayorship are: K Jayalakshmi (Thoothukudi): Vellaiyammal  (Tirunelveli) and  R Nandakumar (Coimbatore). The party has also announced candidates for five municipalities: Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Cuddalore, Vriddhachalam and Coonoor.
