PUDUCHERRY: A 37-year-old man allegedly abused an eight-year-old girl sexually in Puducherry on Wednesday and the police are on the lookout for him.
According to the police, the accused Veerappan (37), a worker in a pen factory at the Mettupalayam industrial area, had tried to force himself upon her.
Sources said the girl, studying third standard in a government primary school at Mettupalayam, was staying opposite to the house of the accused and was the friend of the latter’s daughter. The man had called the eight-year-old to watch TV in his house and then attempted to force himself on her. The girl wriggled out of his hold and managed to escape.
In the meantime, her mother, a casual labourer, reached her house and started searching for the girl.
Later, she found the young girl, who complained about difficulty in passing urine. Then, the girl’s parents took her to a hospital and the incident came to light when she narrated the incidents there.
The parents then lodged a complaint with the Mettupalyam police, who registered a case on Thursday. Meanwhile, the accused went into hiding.
The child is likely to be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson.
