COIMBATORE: Five organs were harvested from a 56-year-old man from Hassan of Karanataka, who died in an accident near Annur, at a city hospital on Sunday .
Sources said that V Devendra, a native to Alur near Hassan district in neighbouring Karnataka, had come to Coimbatore district to attend the marriage of a relative. However, he met with an accident while travelling on a two-wheeler near Annur on Friday. He was immediately taken to KG Hospital for advanced treatment. But he did not respond to it and scans revealed that he was declared brain dead. The first declaration of brain death was made around 3 pm on Saturday and the second declaration by 9 pm by another team.
The hospital’s cadaver transplant coordinator informed the family about the option of organ donation. The family agreed to it.
