VELLORE: Vinod, a 25-year-old resident of Govindapuram, was arrested for murdering his lover Metha of Pernambut, 28,in Vaniyambadi Taluk Police Station limit on Monday.

According to police officials, they were in a relationship for the last two years but they had stopped meeting and talking to each other for the last few months. On learning that Vinod’s parents were looking for a bride for him, Metha contacted him from a public telephone on Monday and pleaded with him to meet her. Vinod took his brother’s car and picked Metha from Vaniyambadi town. They went to Barkur in Krishnagiri.

On their way back, they stopped the car near Nethaji Nagar in Oosithoppu on the outskirt of Vaniyambadi around 4 pm.  Metha allegedly picked up a quarrel with her lover demanding to marry her. In a fit of rage, Vinod grabbed an iron pipe from the car and attacked her. Sustaining a head injury, she died on the spot. Vinod, in a bid to cover up the murder, threw the body inside a farm well. However, a woman saw the youth committing the crime and alerted the locals who informed the police.

The police recovered Metha’s body. Within a couple of hours the police arrested Vinod and filed a case against him. He was remanded to Vellore prison.
