CHENNAI: A 50-year-old man murdered his wife reportedly after her refusal to walk out of an illicit relationship, in  Ayanavaram on Thursday.

Police said Selvaraj (50), a car driver was living with his wife Yasodha (48) and three children at their KK Nagar residence. On coming to learn about Yasodha’s affair with his sister’s husband, Andiappan, he warned her to discontinue the relationship. This also led to frequent quarrels between them. During one such quarrel on Thursday night when the children had gone out, he took a kitchen knife and stabbed her. Later, locking the house he went to the police station with the blood stained knife and informed them about the murder and surrendered.

Police rushed Yasodha to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to the injuries later in the night. Selvaraj was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
