Traffic SI Assaults Woman Cop, Held

VELLORE: A 42-year-old sub-inspector (SI) attached to the traffic wing was arrested for assaulting a woman SI and her husband on Friday.

Police said, “C R Ravikumar, SI, Tirupattur Town Traffic, assaulted S Jayalakshmi, SI in Alangayam police station. The victim was travelling with her husband Shankar (35) in a car on Friday evening when the incident took place.”

The accused Ravikumar was regulating traffic near Pudhupettai Road in an inebriated condition.

According to a police official, Ravikumar abused and assaulted Jayalakshmi using a fiber stick. He also damaged Jayalakshmi’s car. When her husband Shankar interfered, he too was beaten up by the drunken cop.

The accused Ravikumar was booked under sections 294 and 332 of Indian Penal Code by Tirupattur Town police station and was remanded in jail.

Lawyer Arrested

Advocate M Lakshmanan (38), was arrested in Suval Pettai near Arakkonam on Saturday for stabbing a woman.

The victim B Arogya Marrie (35) of Suval Petai is a  social activist and a member of Navarathnam Women Self-Help Group. A police official said,”Marrie alleged that the advocate cheated those who sought his legal service.”

Arogya Marrie campaigned against Lakshmanan and asked people not to avail his legal services. Lakshmanan, angered, abused and stabbed her in the neck, leg and hands, while she was walking with her husband Babu at 9 am in the morning. She was taken to a hospital.
