VELLORE: A surprise inspection was carried out in a number of schools across the district by Education Department officials on Monday and Tuesday.
Director of School Education Dr Rameswara Murugan along with the Joint Director Dr Muthu Pazhanisamy, Chief Educational Officer, V Kumar and the Chief Educational Officer (SSA) A Anitha conducted the inspection.
In Tirupattur educational district, they visited the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Alagayam and inspected the question paper custody centre, block resource centre, daycare centre for the differently-abled children, science labs, computer centre and toilet facilities. They also interacted with teachers and students.
At a review meeting later, the director stressed the need for raising the performance of schools, proper and safe upkeep of files and documents, improving basic facilities in schools, improving attendance of students and the conduct of parent teachers meetings. He advised the headmasters to focus on achieving 95 per cent pass percentage in board examinations this year. On Tuesday, the team visited the district educational office in Vellore, Government Boys Higher Secondary school in Pallikonda and Hindu Higher Secondary school in Ambur.
The team later reviewed the performance of Elementary, middle, high and higher secondary schools in Madhanur block. Reading and writing ability of students of 3, 5 and 8 standards were also assessed. The Joint director also held a meeting with principal of the District Institute of Education and Training ([DIET) A Basheer Ahmed, CEOs and other officials on improving communication facilities in remote areas through teleconferencing in remote schools. A meeting of block resource supervisors, educationists attached to DIET, assistant elementary education officers and head masters were also.
The team later met the Collector and apprised him of the inspection and review meetings.
