6 Youth Held for Murder, Carjacking

VELLORE: Police nabbed a gang of six, allegedly guilty of carjacking and other serious crimes, following the murder of a 27-year-old car driver, Wasim Akram, who worked for a leather manufacturing firm in Madhurvayol.

The police nabbed Rajesh (26), Ashok Kumar (25), Rajan (46), Sathish Kumar ((27) and Jayaraman (23) of Chennai and Vijayakanthan (33) of Padavedu in Tiruvannamalai, on charges of murdering Akram and stealing the SUV car along with leather goods on August 13 in the Arcot police station limits.

The police sources said that they nabbed the gang during a vehicle check on the National Highway near Arcot. Upon interrogation, the gang confessed to the murder of Akram. They told the police that they strangulated Akram to death and dumped his body on the foothills of Kathiyavadi Hills. The police recovered the car and the leather goods near Vijayakanthan’s house.

Based on their confession, the police filed a case under various sections of IPC and remanded them to the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
