222 Houses Without Toilets Put on Notice

Action initiated for dumping night soil directly into drainage system

VELLORE: The Tirupattur and Vaniyamabadi municipalities have sent notices to as many as 222 households in these towns for causing sanitary-related problems.

 According to commissioner Ravi of Vaniyambadi municipality, 165 households are dumping night soil directly into the public drainage system as they do not have toilets and septic tank facilities. Similarly, in Tirupattur, the municipality has issued notices to 57 households that were found to be dumping night soil directly into the public drainage system.

The municipalities have directed officials to construct proper sanitation facilities. Instructions have also been given to stop dumping night soil completely within the next 15 days time, failing which criminal action will be taken against these households.

According to the commissioner no scavengers were involved in removing night soil within the municipal limit. Any information or complaints in this regard should be made to the sanitary officer Srinivasan at 9442810546. For lodging complaints regarding sanitary problems sanitary officer M Tamilselvan should be contacted at 9965423881.

Night soil is a euphemism for human faeces and is produced in areas without community infrastructure such as a sewage treatment facility or individual septic disposal.
