PUDUCHERRY: A gang robbed the house of a private engineering college staff at gun-point in Sultanpet in the wee hours of Saturday.

Police said, Abdul Rehman (59), secretary of Farouk Educational Trust that runs Raak College of Engineering and Technology, had left his house at 5 am, when a four-member gang that was waiting outside his house in a Tata Qualis, besieged him and forced him to go back into the house at gunpoint.

They pushed his wife into a room and tied up Rehman and his 25-year-old son Ismail. Threatening Rehman with a gun and a knife, they forced him to hand over the keys to the house of college chairman B Mohamed Farouk, who resides in Thailand and visits Puducherry occasionally.

On confessing that he did not have the keys the gang started abusing Rehman.

Stating that they had been keeping a close watch on the movements of the trustees for the last six months, they  accused the college authorities of not having a proper conduct with the students and failing to provide compensation to a girl student, Rehman informed the police in his complaint.

The gang searched the whole house but could not find the keys to the chairman’s house. Following this the gang took away a digital camera from his almirah, two cell phones, four gold bangles that his wife was wearing (four sovereigns), his gold rings and `10,000 cash.

The gang then fled from the spot. Later in the day Rehman filed a complaint at Villianur police station. Police registered a case and began investigations.
