VELLORE: Banned tobacco products worth around `15 lakh were seized and destroyed by officials of the food safety department in Sathuperi on Thursday. Police attached to Thimiri, involved in a vehicle check around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, stopped a lorry heading towards Aarni from Chennai and found the vehicle loaded with banned tobacco products.
“The police informed us about the seized tobacco products and handed them over to us. We destroyed the products in Sathuperi,” V Manimaran, deputy director of food safety department said.
