SALEM:Three years after he went missing, city police recovered the skeletal remains of a man from a well on Monday. He was allegedly murdered by his wife and her lover and thrown into the well.

The victim, Ragu (23), from Three Roads, Pallapatti was a painter. He was married to Rama (22) and the couple had a daughter.

In June 2012, Ragu was reported missing by his wife. Recently, City Police Commissioner A Amal Raj had directed police officers to investigate the missing persons cases from 2010 to 2015.

Following the instructions, Pallapatti police questioned Rama and found her answers contradictory.

Later, they learnt that she was having an affair with her house owner Balaji (36) and detained him.

During interrogation, Balaji allegedly confessed to murdering Ragu, with the help and her brother Manickaraj (25).

On Monday, Pallapatti police detained Rama and Manickaraj, who confessed they had thrown his body into a well near their home.

“After Ragu came to know of Rama’s affair with Balaji, he warned her to break the relationship.

Hence, Rama and Balaji planned to finish him off and mixed poison in the liquor bottle, which Raghu had kept at home.

After Ragu died, they tied his body to a stone with the help of Rama’s brother and dumped it in the well,” a senior police officer told Express.

On Monday morning, the Pallapatti police pumped out the water from the well and retrieved Raghu’s skeletal remains in the evening.

The remains have been sent for a DNA test in Chennai.
