MADURAI:A 27-year-old businessman was found murdered with more than 30 cut injuries on his body at a cremation ground at Anaiyur here on Monday.
The deceased G Muthuraj, residing at Muthunagar Second Street in Anaiyur, was running an iron grill workshop and was also involved in real estate and cattle brokering, police said. He reportedly left home on Sunday evening after he was called by three persons to discuss cattle sale. As he did not return at night, his wife and family started searching for him. On Monday, his body with knife and sickle injuries was noticed by the public at the cremation ground near a bus stop.
Senior police officials, including City Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Samant Rohan Rajendra and forensic experts inspected the spot.
Police sources said preliminary inquiry indicates that the murder was not due to a gang feud. They said though the motive is yet to be ascertained, it appears that Muthuraj could have been killed because of enmity in real estate business. A police official, however, said that they were closing in on the suspects and the exact motive for the murder would be known soon.
