Jaya Inaugurates 80 New Hostels, School Buildings

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has inaugurated 80 new hostels and school buildings for students hailing from BC, MBC, Denotified Communities and minority communities, constructed at a total cost of Rs 62 crore. These include the Rs 1.14 crore hostel for BC students at Rasipuram in Namakkal district. These hostels are equipped with solar water heater, solar photovoltaic power plant etc.,

The 37 other hostels, built for BC students  at a total cost of Rs 22.75 crore, are in the districts of Ariyalur, Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Salem, Theni, Tiruchy, Tiruvarur, Tirupur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Virudhunagar, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Namakkal and Sivaganga.

She also inaugurated six hostels for girl students hailing from Backward communities constructed at a total cost of Rs 6.68 crore at Sivaganga, Aruppukottai, Nilakkotai, Kodaikkanal, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai, Udumalpettai, Navalur and  Kuttappattu (Inamkulathur) and 24 hostels for students hailing from Most Backward communities in Salem, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Tiruvarur, Tiruvallur and Tiruvannamalai districts, constructed at a total cost of Rs 18.26 crore.

Nine hostels for students hailing from MBCs and Denotified communities constructed at an expenditure of Rs 9.11 crore at Pudukottai, Panchapatti, A Vadipatti, Nagudi, Kothamangalam, Begampur, Dindigul and  Melakudalur, new buildings for Kallar Girls Higher Secondary School in Chekkanurani were also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal, Industries Minister P Thangamani, Backward Classes Minister S Abdul Rahim, Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan, Advisor to State government Sheela Balakrishnan were present.
