DINDIGUL: Mary, of Nagal Nagar, Dindigul, underwent puerperal sterilisation surgery (family planning surgery) at the government hospital, Dindigul on Tuesday.
The hospital source said, Mary wife of Alagar bore eight children of whom one died. She refused to follow government rules with the support of her husband for many years. Meanwhile, she gave birth to another baby at her house some days ago.
Her health worsened because of heavy blood loss and she was taken to government hospital in Dindigul where a medical team led by Ravikala, joint director of the hospital managed to save her.
The doctors advised Mary to look after her health and to follow the rules. She was kept under medical care for 20 days during which she was given nutritious food and three units of blood.
When the doctors found her fit on Monday to undergo surgery, the sterilization was done. She would be discharged soon, the source added.
