COIMBATORE/CHENNAI:The Supreme Court order on Monday cancelling the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) has put those who had appeared for it under enormous stress. They feel that the four weeks fixed by the apex court for conducting the re-examination is not enough.

The results of the entrance examination, conducted by the  Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 3, were to be declared on Monday. Over six lakh students had appeared for the test for about 2,000 medical and dental college seats.

Academics have demanded that the CBSE take precautions while conducting such tests of national importance and ensure that malpractices do not occur.

Aji Antony, a Coimbatore student who appeared for AIPMT said, “Four weeks is not enough to revise the syllabus and prepare for the test. Some have been preparing for over a year.”

G R Ravindranath of the Doctor’s Association for Social Equality said, “The court decision is correct, and given the penetration of technology we can’t be sure where all the question papers were leaked, even if the news came in from Haryana. In future, an instance like this must be avoided. No private agency should be involved in conducting these exams. Vigilance officers should be assigned different State examination centres to monitor, so that there is no bias.”
