KARUR: A 17-year-old girl who hoodwinked the authorities of the school, where she had failed in Class X examination, by allegedly tampering with her marksheet to sneak into Plus Two course, landed in the soup when she pushed her luck while applying for polytechnic course using the same document.
The girl had allegedly overwritten the digits on the marksheet using a pencil, leading to the higher-ups in the education department suspecting that the staff were hand-in-glove for overlooking the act, sources said.

The matter came to light recently when Meena decided to enrol herself to a technical course at a private polytechnic in Desiyamangalam near Ayyarmalai after failing to get through the Plus Two public exam held earlier this year.
When the officials at the institute scrutinised her application, they found out that the certificate was tampered with and immediately passed on the information to Palayajayamkondam Government Higher Secondary School, where she had studied.
A teacher, who did not wish to be named, told Express that the girl’s SSLC certificate (issued in 2013) had been tampered with. Based on the allegations, the Karur Chief Education Officer launched a probe into the incident.
“She managed to get admission to crop production group (agri) in Class XI in the same school, despite failing in Class 10. However, she failed to crack the 2015 public exam,” sources said.
Meanwhile, sources at the CEO office told Express that the then headmaster P Ganesan, who now heads Kanialampatti Government Higher Secondary School, was summoned for an inquiry.
Speaking to Express, CEO Ramasamy said, “I conducted an inquiry with P Ganesan. Soon, the girl and the school staff too would be questioned.”
