PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Unit on Tuesday accused Chief Minister N Rangasamy of enacting a drama on the distribution of free rice scheme with an eye on elections.
In a statement here, DMK South convener R Siva said that Rangasamy who hitherto pretended as an ‘authoritarian’ ruler, started feeling that people are the real rulers. With a fear on election, Rangasamy has revived schemes, which were stalled by him earlier. But, it will not cut ice among the voters.
In the last four years of rule, Rangasamy had earned a distinction of winding up schemes and institutions in all sectors, said Siva.
“Though the distribution of ten kg free rice scheme was resumed, he had forgotten his promise on providing thirty kilograms of free rice a month. In four and half years, out of the 620 kilograms, he had provided only 150 kilograms of rice per ration card. However, in view of the Assembly election, he has resumed the supply of free rice as if introducing a new scheme,” said the DMK leader.
Siva said that the rice scheme introduced at the time of the Lok Saba poll vanished immediately after the elections. Again cash- for-free-rice was introduced by the Chief Minister which also was stopped later.
The DMK will bring to light all the ‘election dramas’ of Rangasamy, he said.
The Chief Minister had re-opened the Anglo FrenchTextile (AFT) Mills here four times, but the mill remains non functional, Siva said and added that even though the Chief Minister himself is responsible for the closure of the mill, he is re-opening it as if some others are reponsible for the closure, added Siva.
