VELLORE: Several members of the Vellore unit of the Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers (VAO) Association staged a fast agitation on Tuesday demanding the reinstatement of two VAOs who were suspended because of alleged irregularities committed by them.

Led by the district president of the Association, Mohamed Sadiq, the protestors said that while K Samarapuri, VAO of Ganapathipuram in Arakonam taluk was suspended on charges of irregularities committed by senior revenue officials in connection with a quarry, the Ariyurkuppam VAO Prahalathan was suspended in connection with a mishap in which four persons were electrocuted during a temple car procession.

The agitators contend that both VAOs were innocent of the charges of irregularities but were being victimised with the district administration holding them responsible for mistakes committed by other officials.

Office bearers of the taluk level VAO associations from across the district participated in the agitation.
