

VILLUPURAM: Three doctors were killed, while three others, including a post-graduate medical student, injured on Monday evening, when the car in which they were travelling capsized while trying to avoid hitting a dog which darted across the Puducherry-Tindivanam Bypass Road near Vanur.
According to police, the mishap took place when the six — Divya (22) of Villupuram, Dhanya (22) of Thrissur in Kerala, Prafulla (22) and Peyush (28) of Mahe, Somasekaran (23) of Vijayawada in AP and Dharanidaran (23) of Siruvanthadu near Villupuram, all friends — were going to the Adi Parasakthi Medical College Hospital, Melmaruvathur.
Peyush, who was doing his final year post-graduation at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Hospital, Puducherry, was guiding the five, who had completed MBBS in the same college this year, to do post-graduation. He was behind the wheel of the vehicle. When the car neared Vanur, a dog suddenly crossed the road.
Peyush swerved the vehicle, which went out of control, hit the median and its rear tyre burst. The vehicle turned turtle.
The six were seriously injured and screamed for help. Other motorists and people from the village tried to rescue them. By then, Divya, Dhanya and Somasekaran died. The other three were sent to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry for treatment.
