
PUDUCHERRY: A documentary film on King Rajendra Chola, one of the greatest Tamil rulers, was released here on Sunday. Chief Minister N Rangasamy released the DVD of the documentary directed by Gunavathy Maindhan (Ravi) in the presence of High Court judges D Hariparanthaman and N Kirubakaran.
The 60-minute film chronicles the life and achievements of King Rajendra Chola (1012-1044 CE), son of the great Raja Raja I, who was one of the greatest rulers of the Chola empire. During his reign, Rajendra extended his empire’s influence to the northern part of the country. The leader with great military tact crossed the ocean with his huge army in fleets of ships to extend his conquests in Burma, Malaysia, and other South East Asian nations.
Speaking on the occasion, Assembly Speaker V Sabapathy commended Gunavathy Maindhan who has made 17 other documentaries, including the ones on Sri Aurobindo, Thiruvalluvar, and Bharathiyar.
